Pipe Insert Heaters (Indirect Immersion Heating)
Difficult products to heat include asphalt, tar, No. 6 fuel oil (Bunker C), high starch content liquids, and liquid sugar. These products demand a low watt density, and are often in large storage tank. Indirect heating works perfectly in these applications.
A pipe, welded into the tank, capped at the end inside the tank, and having a flange or screw plug fitting on the open end, is ready to receive a pipe insert heater. An Incoloy sheathed heater with a special watt density rating slides into the pipe. Heat transfers to the inside of the pipe wall, through the pipe wall then distributed over the much larger surface area of the pipe. The result is a low watt density to heat the liquid and easy removal of the heater, without ever draining the tank. Properly selected materials with pipe insert heaters will give you maximum heater life, almost zero maintenance and like all electric heating systems, 100% power performance.
